Swan City Ice Skaters

Our program is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating and our skating instructors are well trained professionals that provide many years of combined experience. We would like to welcome you to the Swan City Ice Skaters Club, located at the Beaver Dam Family Center, 609 Gould St. Beaver Dam WI. We would like to provide you with some important information that will make your lessons more effective.

First Day

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to get your skates (included with your class) and to check the board in the rink area, for your skater’s class assignment. You should find your skaters name and class color and proceed to the corresponding colored disk located on the floor by the entrance doors to the ice.

Your instructor will be wearing the same colored scarf and will meet you by the correct colored disk. New skaters will learn skills off ice first before they are allowed on the ice. Our skill classes consist of a half hour of instruction and a half hour of practice time.  Practice areas will be at the end of the rink by the entrance door.  There will also be a wipe off board that shows all classes for the hour. The second week of classes all skaters will meet on the ice.

Tips

* Make sure skates fit well and have support (whether they are yours or rental skates). Skates should be the same or one size smaller than street shoes. Extra thick socks often bunch and make skaters uncomfortable. Helmets are strongly encouraged and clothing should be warm and allow for unrestricted movement. Gloves or mittens are a must!

* Make sure your skater uses the restroom before their lesson!

* Encourage your skater to be courteous to their instructor and to use their practice time to learn the class skills!  Practice make perfect!!  (Or almost!)

* If you have administrative questions or just need direction there will be a board member on duty for your convenience.  Our skate director will also be available to answer skating questions.

Practice Ice and Club Structure

When you purchase your basic skills class you become a basic skills member with Swan City Ice Skaters club.  As a member your fee also includes additional ice time that the club has designated for your practice use. Check the site calendar frequently for these added hours to practice your skills!!!

Your level dictates your available ice time. As a Snowplow Sam class member or a Basic 1-6 skater, your ice includes anything captioned as " All club ice" or "Basic club" on the SCIS calendar. During ice show practices or spring and summer, there is a different fee structure.  See those registration forms for more information.
